About Jake Futterman
Jake Futterman is in 12th grade at Harvard Westlake School in Los Angeles, California. He has been doing robotics since he first started with LEGO Mindstorms robotics in 5th grade at Mirman School. He was a founding member and team captain of Mirman’s award-winning FIRST LEGO League robotics team. He graduated Mirman in 2017 and received Mirman’s Head of School Award.
Now, Jake is a team captain of Harvard Westlake’s VEX Robotics team 62A. In 2019, his team won the California State Championship undefeated. They moved onto and reached the quarter finals of both the 2019 VEX Robotics National and World Championships.
In addition to robotics, Jake has been an avid competitive junior golfer since he was young. He has played in and won a variety of local, regional, and world championship junior golf tournaments. In high school, he is a starter on Harvard Westlake’s Varsity Golf Team. He attended the 2017 NAIS Student Diversity Leadership Conference and is a Harvard Westlake Student Ambassador. He also surfs, plays the guitar, and enjoys spending time with family.
In 2018, Jake founded EHA Robotics and continues leading the program as its Executive Director. Jake has always had a passion for robotics and helping others, and founded EHA Robotics to share his knowledge and love of robotics with people who would not normally have access to it.
Jake developed the curriculum for EHA Robotics from his own experience in competitive FLL and VEX robotics. He has also licensed the curriculum to Mirman School and mentors Mirman’s FLL robotics teams. Additionally, he teaches live online robotics classes to elementary school students at Mirman and around the country to bring robotics to as many people as he can.
Jake’s lifelong participation and training in athletics, leadership, teaching, robotics, and social justice continues to inspire him to serve and advocate for others. His background and goals contribute to a successful and enlightening robotics program for the children in Ethiopia who hope to grow their future and reach for the stars.
